How can I access the internet on Stenden Emmen
wireless, or with a cable, and on the student-campus of the school?

 

1                    First you check you’re laptop for all the possibilities of networking and if you have installed the proper networkdriver(s) for your network card


2                    Check on your computer your  network connections (make sure its all Automatic)

3 Press the start button goto RUN:

            
 
and type CMD (enter) or Win98 (command) or in Vista just enter CMD in the searchbar

4                    You see a black DOS screen appear

5                    In that screen you type:   IPCONFIG  /ALL and press enter
(just like below)



 

Make sure you check the proper networkcard because there are more, and check the numbers thoroughly !!!


Now you have to send the Physical address number to:

 servicedesk.emmen@stenden.com

You get an email back when your address is ready for use!!!
When you have received an email from the servicedesk that you computer is in de server list,
then you have internet connectivity.

 

if you receive all the IP addresses from our server, then the network is fine
You can check this by doing the above commands again
you have to see an ipadress like:   10.x.x.x   at your networkcard

 

If not, then delete your networkcard from the "system properties",  "hardware" tab
and let the computer install your networkcard again.
 

We do not give any support for any kind of software or problems on your laptop, like

Skype, Yahoo, MSN, VOIP, FTP, KAZAA, IMESH, Torrents, etc etc.

Only web enabled software will function at the network.
  

If you experience problems with your machine / software / hardware you can go to Norrod
a computer shop in the city of Emmen, near the bus station,

you can not go to the servicedesk of the Stenden Emmen with these problems

 

 

Look at  http://drivers.hsdrenthe.nl for a printerdriver to print from the laptopnetwork to a OCE printer on the school (not Vista or Apple)

 

if you still do not have internet on your machine, the problem will be with settings or installed software on your laptop or pc,
and you have to find the problem yourself, we cannot give support for laptops with computer problems.

 

Here is a useful tip before you go networking on the Hogeschool Drenthe check:

http://free.grisoft.com for a very fine free virus scanner. (if you install it, first deinstall your old scanner)
